Treatment for Anxiety

Anxiety is uncomfortable and painful, but is also highly treatable.

Anxiety disorders center around excessive fear or dread, and are among the most common mental health challenges. Those with anxiety disorders may experience ruminating thoughts (when we dwell on something and play it over in our heads again and again), or racing thoughts (when we can’t turn off our minds to concentrate on anything or to get some sleep). Sometimes people have panic attacks, which can include shortness of breath, racing heartbeats or chest discomfort, shaking, a sense of unreality, and a sense of impending doom.

Treatment involves uncovering patterns of thoughts and feelings, which allows us to make new choices in our difficult moments instead of falling back into our old unhealthy patterns. It helps when we begin to understand why and when those patterns began in the first place, so we can develop new and better ways to cope.
